[Premium-Rx] What are these outputs on back of wj 8618B (S 1)?

Ben,

The XYZ out will be dead on your rx---this is for an X-Y display with
intensity (Z) control, which is associated with the Digitally Refreshed
Display option

SW IF Out is an IF monitor point that is after the IF filters--bandwidth
will be that of the selected IF filter

FM Mon is the discriminator output, which is always active regardless of
demodulation mode

SW Video is the DC-coupled detector output - mode is the selected
demodulation mode - yes, demod mode selected being FM, the SW Video will be
the same--discriminator out.

WB IF Output ---this is best when you use the optional module "WBO", which
is a wideband IF processor that is agc'd to approx -30dbm. This is actually
intended to feed to other IF-driven equipment such as direction finder, aux
demodulators and subcarrier demods, etc etc. You can use this as your
"tuning scope" output, as you are doing.

EM is the extended memory option--consult the manual, as memory use on these
rx's is somewhat different than scanners today...suffice it say, you get
more channels with EM.

FE is frequency extension (don't confuse with FEX, which tunes to 1200MHz),
which extends to cover up to 1100MHz

LFE is low frequency extension, which enables tuning down to 2MHz, if I
recall properly. (see HFE, below)

LOC is lockout..., which is a memory item---similar to lockout on scanner,
but significantly more involved in use

SM is Signal Monitor, which is the green scope unit on the left side of the
front panel.

I'm not sure, but you may also have the HFE option, unless the HFE
functionality is included in the LFE option. Sorry, I don't have all the
manuals unpacked yet.

You can also take a look at the Watkins Johnson Info site, originated and
maintained by Terry O'Laughlin, a long-time list member. Go to:
http://watkins-johnson.terryo.org/

good luck with that rx, and have fun!!
