[Premium-Rx] AC Mains Filter Recommendation Needed

Hi Ed,

I've located a number of really great EMI filters on ebay, at silly low cost...I have and use qty 3, 70 amp, 220Volt (2 phase, so you can get 110VAC). You need to see to several items: make sure the filter handles all three or four wies...that would be hot/nutral/ground for 110VAC filters OR hot/hot/nutral/ground for a 220VAC. My room is fully screened, so the filters are mounted inside a steel Hoffman box which is grounded by being bolted directly to the screen shield. Of course, the shield is well grounded. You probably are in an unshielded room, so the filter should be well grounded by whatever technically legitimate means you have...see ARRL books for discussion and examples. Note that I do not consume that kind of current, rather the filters can handle the amperage on the feeder cable to the room...oversized to reduce cable losses.

A message to all: As the moderator, I encourage this sort of discussion about accessory items for Premium-RX's. I would think that: if it squeezes performance out of a Premium-RX OR helps someone fix their Premium-RX OR helps a newcomer understand the ops of a Premium-RX, it's a good subject. Off-subject material should be obvious...I hope.

regards

Subject: [Premium-Rx] AC Mains Filter Recommendation Needed

  Hello to the Group!

Though only indirectly pertinent to Premium receivers, I'd like to get some recommendations as to which filter to use at my electrical junction box. I am building a radio room from the ground up and will have a dedicated electrical sub panel for the room.

I want to purchase a heavy duty EMI/RFI filter to put in-line, so that every AC outlet in the room has this benefit. I figure, why not have the quietest scenario possible so that I can maximize performance/reception of each premium receiver?

  Your input is appreciated.
