I just installed my Fostex RM-1 19" rack speaker system. The audio quality is superb. Listening is an absolute joy. The Fostex EQ will be here in a few days. I cannot imagine how good the system will sound once that is installed. The RM-1 amplifier has two 15W finals and oval dual cones behind a 1U grill . Frequency response is tight with no discernable distotion at full volume. Controls are simple and solid. Inputs are XLR / 0.25" Neutrik combo connectors. For connection I purchased the BNC to 0.25" adapters from Pomona. The mono switch on the front panel combines L+R channels. For communications work limited frequency response is what I was after. The RM-1 has a range of 100 Hz to 15 KHz. You can do the same thing with an EQ and a home stereo amp if you have the room. During my experiments I found it really hard to tame the high and low freq response on studio monitors. The object of home audio is a bit different than communications audio. The worst system I played with and could not tame was a Bose Acoustic Wave. Too much of everything....

In my life I have only owned a few radios with excellent audio delivery. Most had external factory speaker systems. The WJ 8618B and 8716MFP will have their own EQ channels in my rack so each radio will retain dedicated audio presets.

The WJ S-9903E amplified speaker might have been a good speaker for the time. One in new condition might have been very nice but I will probably never know. I have one that I'm trying to repair. It's purpose is mainly historical. There are many modern audio solutions that really perform when connected to our radios.

Best Regards,
