Re: Power Electronics Technology Magazine May 2006
    - Article on Surge Protection

Perhaps a bit off-topic but nevertheless of interest to many who care
about protecting their receivers and other electronic equipment against
Power Line Surges. I just read an article in Power Electronics Technology
Magazine, May 2006 issue and the main subject is Surge Protection.

Basically the article claims that today's power line surge protectors are
basically Transient Voltage Surge Supressors (TVSS) and that they protect
against voltage surges that occur during ligthning strikes.

The article continues to claim that Current-Inrush is actually the worse
ennemy and causes most of the equipment failures.

Article concludes that a new type of surge protection device,
current-inrush voltage surge suppression (CVSS) will provide a complete
protection for equipment.

A manufacturer, Innovolt, is mentioned to be a maker of such a
suppressor. I checked their web site but there is no information and
if anyone can get more details on their products please let me know.

Article may be available on Power Electronics Technology Mag. web site
or I can scan and send it to those interested.

Perhaps this is the ultimate power line surge protection as it would
provide dual protection.

Regards,
Ahmet
