[Premium-Rx] Technology for "quiet" dimmers

I think quiet dimmers are just matter of economics. Electronic Theater
Controls here in Madison has been quietly snapping up companies with
patents on low EMI dimming technology for AC powered lights. They were
developing their own design up until one competitor put a design on the
market. So they bought the competitor. My inside contact at ETC just
transferred to a new job so I can't simply call up and say, how does it work.

In any event, the technology clearly exists. You'll just never see it in a
blister pack at Menards because of the economics.

Has anyone tested dimmers to see which of the current ones are
quietest? Are there any EC certified models for the European market? The
EC seems to care about EMI. In the USA, EMI compatibility for consumer
gear is probably viewed akin to all those other anti-business schemes
environmentalists foist on the unsuspecting public, like the crazy,
mindless opposition to internet over powerlines.
