Velleman sells an audio amp kit that uses the TDA2003 IC. I think it is
kit K4001 if memory serves me correctly. I paid about $9 for mine from
MCM a couple years ago on sale but think they are in the $15 to $20
price range for the kit when not on sale. You might look for that.
Jameco sells some Velleman kits as do many other vendors. There are
quite a few examples of the TDA2002/TDA2003 amps on the internet. The
Gary Pershin general coverage receiver at
http://members.aol.com/gapershi/radio/radio.htm with his pc board
layouts page at:
http://members.aol.com/gapershi/radio/board_layouts.htm and the
actual pdf that contains his board layouts including the audio amp:
http://members.aol.com/gapershi/radio/layouts/Board_Layouts.pdf uses
the TDA2003 in it if you did not want to buy a Velleman kit but want to
make your own. There are many othes out there too but that one came to
mind.

I do not know if any of that helps you but I would go with either the
TDA2003 or TDA2002 or as someone else suggested and use the LM380. All
of these seem to use the manufacturers recommended circuits for both
types of amps so there isn't anything special in the Velleman kit for
example. Those 2 or 3 IC's are quite cheap and easy to use.

Good luck.

I've finally reached the point of frustration with a couple of radios
and
would like to add a simple, clean outboard amp to the back of them,
something on
the order of 2-5 watts into 8 ohms, very good THD specs, at 12 vdc.

Can anyone suggest any source of reasonably priced built or kit amps
fit for
this purpose?

Thanks, Scott
