Hi Guys,
Well as I plough my way thru alignment issues etc., I have come to realize
that I should start looking for replacement FET's for the first mixer. Those
of you who have replaced them, I would appreciate hearing from you as to
what you have replaced them with. From what I can see in another dead A2
module I have, they look like 1S330 or something like that, and a mfr logo
SS or SI, something I don't recognize. Of course, they aren't listed in the
parts list. In the manual for the 1792, they actually show the U1 module
schematic and show the FETs as BSV81. I imagine these would work if I could
find them and match them.
Thanks again for your continued help.
Looking forward to getting this back in the rack.
Cheers

Hi Paul, a common replacement for the RA6790 first mixer FETS is the
Siliconix SD215DE N-Channel DMOS FET - 4 of these are required. The SD215DE has become
quite expensive and rare these days. Allen Bond of Max-Gain Systems offers a
set of 4 of the Siliconix FETS for around $35-$40 I believe. Allen also has
replacement parts for the 6790 and he has replacement first mixer boards for
the 6790 for around $150 plus your sick board in exchange. A better replacement
for the mixer FETS is the SD5000N which is a 16-pin DIP IC which is a quad FET
equivalent. However the small original PC Board with the 4 individual FETS
may need to be modified or rewired a bit to fit the SD5000N IC. Shouldn't be too
hard with a little ingenuity. I am sure you understand the mixer FETS are
inside a solder-sealed can. Can be opened with a soldering gun or carefully with
a small propane torch. 73 Todd WD4NGG
