Take a look at the Elecraft website Paul. They sell a couple of VERY
NIFTY little xtal-controlled signal generators: 1) the XG-1 monoband
at 7.040 MHz; and 2) the XG-2 triple band [80-40-20M]) both with
specifically 50 uV and 1 uV outputs within +/-2dB and typically
+/-1dB for VERY reasonable $$$ ($40 and $60 respectively.)
I consider them INVALUABLE for exactly your situation, to wit: is
something going on with my rcvr(s); my splitter; or my cables??? A
quick BNC - whatever connection, tune to 40M and you'll *** KNOW ***
if 1 uV is there or not. And you can so easily compare rcvrs and so
on. Yes, my 8640B would do the same thing, but it sure is a lot
heavier, etc. etc. This is fast and more than reasonably accurate.
Obviously I love 'em. For the person with multi-rcvr installations,
there's nothing faster except WWV-and that doesn't let you rule out
the splitter/coupler and cables.
