It's something I have looked at briefly but since the software I am
using for my SW logging (swlog) won't support user defined radios or
incorporate support for a more open project such as hamlib

it's a bit of a moot point.

Not all 3700 series have serial ports, My 3702 does and I have sent
commands and received the results back using a terminal package but
since i have neither the time nor the expertise to write something
useful from scratch I did not proceed any further than this 

I would be happy to work on omnirig / hamlib support for the 3702 as
well as having a go at debugging an application under linux or
windows.
