Dear Members,
Thanks to all those who replied to my post. This
group is unique in regard to the helpfulness of its members and the quality
of the replies. I have learnt a lot . My summary of it all is that one must
beware when using inverters - there seem to be good ones available, but it
would be best to "try before you buy" , if that is at all possible. The
sine wave inverter I purchased ( A$150 , used) was from a company dealing
in the hire and sale of electronic instrumentation, and on paper at least
the specifications seemed to indicate that it was suitable for powering
"sensitive electronic equipment", but in practice, it was very noisy. I'm
glad that I didn't pay a lot for it.
                                                                                                                                                            Best
Regards,
                                                                                                                                                                                   Eric.
