I think it's the only way to go... my thoughts of course, I have had virtually every premium receiver , FOR MY NEEDS the 340 is the long term solution, sans a real MUTE ckt, not just audio, in my applications im wanting RF isolations as well, I love the variable BW functions, notch, it's a very intuitive piece of gear, I found no discounts no used ones in my time frame, later another member offered me his, that I did buy for a friend, as it turns out, this might have been a good deal all the way around, the seller lives in Biloxi MS and my sister picked up the set about 3 weeks ago, size and weight are terrific, it's a bit odd till you think about it, controlled via. say HRD or N4PY you cant control the volume output, it's analog, but rather thru the GAIN and after you think about it, it makes sense... if you're a customer with a room full of the things, the volume control output stays constant, thus leaving the operator only ONE adjustment to control for both gain and subsequently volume ... in short , I like it, and would buy again, and I bought directly from the factory, I omitted the instruction book is a bit shallow, but they seem to presume you have these intuitive feelings already perfected... as well the power supply is sweet. glad that more equipment is headed that way .. I WOULD NOT BUY THE N4PY PROGRAM again, and will not renew it.. HRD works just as well if not better, and I dont say this because of price, but for the price I was expecting a program more nearly that would immulate the 340, not just his general format of programs.. I was dis=appointed in the N4PY program .. given a real chance to just be picky as hell, I'd go for a slightly bigger tuning knob, and one that has the finger hole where it slips within the main tuning knob as you spin around, but this is really borderline chicken complaints.. The speaker, yup, I would have like to have seen something on the 590 scheme, that is as good as an internal speaker as we see, plus it lets you stack more crap on top the receiver, and not loose the speaker resonance within the new muffled sound after you cover it up .. final say, next favorite is the 590 followed by the 6793 that's all, end of report ... mac/mc w5mc

I've read several reviews on this box and it seems like a well engineered and built premium receiver. The shortfalls for me include; a synch detector that is not top of line, and no USB port. Also, it seems to me that with all the space in the cabinet they could make it much, smaller and if not install a better speaker with some sort of enclosure ala the old KLH FM rx of the late 60s.
Since I've never had a chance to try or even see one I'd sure like to hear how any owners on this group compare it with a RF-590A, HF-2050, WJ, Cubic and others in the same class.
Can it be purchased at much of a discount from the nearly $4k and is it really worth it? I've probably got that and more invested in half dozen receivers I have. I need to think about slimming down.
  tnx
