seems the Palomar Loops are for 1.7MHz and lower freq ranges. and from
the looks of it, it is a Ferrite Loop rather than a "air core" type Loop
that comes to mind. They should be effective for the frequency ranges
they are meant for but once you go higher up on the HF bands, i think
such a small size Ferrite Loop would be basically useless. Effective
Gain of a Loop antenna is directly related to its Surface Area and the
number of turns of the coil. For such a small Ferrite Loop effective
surface area is very small. So you would need an amplifier which they
seem to have it in the LA1 unit. if you are using the loop for higher
frequency ranges, the results will be dissapointing for sure.

I bought a set of the Palomar loop antennas last year and I am very
dissapointed with them.I trid using them with my Tentec RX350. They don't
work any better than a longwire.I have not yet tried the Palomar with
either the R390A or the Racal RA6790/GM.I bought the Palamor primarily to
take to the beach with the Tentec. There is little possibility to rig an
antenna at the beach. So, the question is, is it antenna malfunction or
operator malfunction ?Comments, please. Thank you.Kindest regards,Dave*******************************************************************************************
I
bought a Polamar magnetic antenna kit and for a kick decided to QSL
the
whole US BC band in one night. I sent a report to a station in
Southwest
Oklahoma that had a cardioid pattern aimed at New Mexico. Being in
Southern Minnesota I was in the null of their pattern; I got a long
letter from their engineer asking what kind of radio and antenna I
had
to be able to do that.
