They are loops. Rarely, if ever will a loop outperform a long wire, per se. Loops have other attributes, of course, such as directivity and lower noise. No majic.

I bought a set of the Palomar loop antennas last year and I am very dissapointed with them.
I trid using them with my Tentec RX350. They don't work any better than a longwire.
I have not yet tried the Palomar with either the R390A or the Racal RA6790/GM.
I bought the Palamor primarily to take to the beach with the Tentec. There is little possibility to rig an antenna at the beach.
So, the question is, is it antenna malfunction or operator malfunction ?
Comments, please.
Thank you.
Kindest regards,
Dave

I
bought a Polamar magnetic antenna kit and for a kick decided to QSL the
whole US BC band in one night. I sent a report to a station in Southwest
Oklahoma that had a cardioid pattern aimed at New Mexico. Being in
Southern Minnesota I was in the null of their pattern; I got a long
letter from their engineer asking what kind of radio and antenna I had
to be able to do that.
