That would be a neat project for the 3586.  I am also wondering if anyone has 
ever added an AGC to the HP-312A or similar selective voltmeter? That would 
make a dandy VLF receiver with a decent AGC action. Love that Nixie Tube 
readout!  Shouldn't be too hard to plug in a new crystal to lower the BFO offset 
frequency.
