[Premium-Rx] Help.... What The Heck Are These ?

Sorry for the off topic post but someone here "has" to
know what these are.  I picked up a bunch from the
physics department at the college I work at a  while
back ... they were tossing them.  But... try as I
might I can't determine just what they are.  I do know
they came from test equipment or microwave gear.

They are 1 inch long, about .25" diameter on the ends
with a slightly larger ceramic body.  There is a
silver metal end and a gold colored end and they
obviously plug sort of like a fuse.  There is a
marking like a shotglass with S over T in it and a "+"
on one end, the number 6846148 on one side of the
ceramic body... the number M 150 is on the other.

What the heck are these ? Diode ? Fuse ? Tube of some
sort ?
