 From what I've learnt since, this "B" version seems to be a special 
made for the US Navy; a few have come up on eBay...  Even if there is no 
specific documentation available, it sounds as though it can be made to 
work fine.  I have a copy of the firmware, which allows tuning down to 
10 kHz, and has different tuning steps from the usual ones.   It seems 
to have a special front end, with separate VLF input, and  a bunch of 
extra IF and baseband outputs (for data use?) along with the regular stuff.

Anyway, good news about Choe's radio!
