Subject: [Premium-Rx] RF-590 trouble shoot
I had an IC-R71 that acted this way once. It turned out it was a trace on one of the PC boards that had a small break in it. Pull out the filter board and examine the traces closely with magnification. If you find one that goes to this filter with a small break, just bridge some solder across the break. That should fix it. While you have it out, you might reheat the filter connections also.

Looking for some good advice.
I acquired what looked like a slightly long in the tooth 590 orphan a few weeks ago, and it's perking along great now but for one small problem.
On the self test, I infrequently get an "assembly 4 - fault 7" message - when that happens, the 6 kc filter is inop. Many days it's fine, no rhyme or reason. So I opened it up, and find with a slight pressure one way or the other on that filter, it drops in, but when I relax it, it drops out.
Does this sound like a bad filter solder joint on the board, or a bad filter, or possibly the pressure on the board causing something else to make contact I should look for? (tho wiggling the other filters and A4 board causes no change).
I'm a bad enough radio mechanic with enough experience to know to ask first before I get crazy with the soldering pencil. :)
Thanks for any advice.
Scott
