[Premium-Rx] Blasphemy!!!

Hello Troops.

I am considering committing blasphemy; deliberately modifying a 
premium receiver <<GASP!!!>>  To make it even worse, it's a Racal
RA-6778C.

I dearly love the rig, but it has two things that have bothered
me since day one.

First, the front panel speaker is USELESS JUNK!!!

Second, the rig uses an LED display instead of a real S-Meter.

These two items play into each other... so why not put a REAL
(small) S-Meter into the speaker opening, mounted on a sub panel?

What I'm looking for here...  does anyone have a schematic for the
other versions of the RA-6778 that have a real S-Meter? If so, I'd
like to get a copy of that part of the circuit to see just what
Racal did on them, and to see how much trouble it would be to make
up something for this rig.


BTW...   Good News / Bad News re. this rig.

Good News; yesterday, at the Madison Hamfest I found a BEAUTIFUL,
modern rack cabinet that is 5 units high, and painted to provide 
a pleasing color contrast to the oddly painted (pastel blue/green)
front panel. 

The Bad News; as we all know, Racal likes to build thier receivers 
DEEP. I have 3 or 4 inches of radio hanging out of the rear end of
the cabinet. That surprises me; I have another cabinet, by the same
manufacturer, of the same series, which is deep enough, but which
has too much panel opening to be a good match (plus, the damned thing
is factory painted Baby Poop BROWN! It looks TERRIBLE!!!).


Anyway...  does anyone out there have a schematic?
