Hi Frank and all youz guys,
I believe this serial protocol on the 2411 is same as 3030A. Pretty
straight forward and should work with Ergo. Best to check with Ergo
software first, though. As an aside, I see a lot of generalizing in these
messages where the 3030A and 3030 model numbers are used synonomously....a
3030A is not a 3030. A 3080 is essentially half a 3030 (not A). Typically,
the 3030A and 2411 feature serial control while the 3030/3080 have GPIB.
There are a few (very few) variants.
Very important for some of the guys who have wanted to run GPIB with Ergo:
last I checked with proprietor, he indicated Ergo 4 runs the 3030A in serial
only--NO GPIB/IEEE-488. GPIB capability would be nice, though - hint!!
hint!! for ego guys
The GPIB protocol is similar to the serial, but differs in important ways
where the GPIB native commands (serial poll, parellel pole, etc) are used.
The 3030 GPIB (not the 3030A) works fine, and the command syntax is really
straightforward.
I'm writing some rudimentary Labview 7.0 routines for the 3030 GPIB, but
progress has slowed while we execute our slow-motion move. Those routines I
have tried work great.
I recently scored a spare 3030 CPU module with ver 4.7A firmware...my intent
is to find the entries that control the display for filters...it's really
easy to swap filters for special purposes, but the IF offset and display is
hard-coded, so it always reads stock values and the IF offset needs to be
set manually. Any geniuses out there that feel up to dissecting the
firmware? I used to do all this stuff in the early 80's, but have forgotten
the handy details that make it work.
regards
John Collins
