[Premium-Rx] Unidentified receiver in Radio Bygones article

A very interesting article. I think that receiver A may be the Racal
RA1280. I'm not 100% sure of the number, but I remember seeing one when I
worked at Racal. It came in 3 19 inch rack units and was tuned in 1Hz steps
using thumbwheel switches. I believe the roofing filter was made from
individually selected crystals so a lot of attention was paid to front end
performance. I don't know who this was built for, but I believe there were
not many made. The model from the lab was sold to one of the employees when
they had a clear out, but I don't believe he did much with it.

Regards,

Danny, G3XVR

Hello,

Just looked in the recent addition of the Radio Bygones article of Feb/March
2004.

In this article you asked for help to identify the missing non-Marconi
receivers
of the comparison tables.

I can help you with a positive identification of 'H'
which is the Swedish ITT/Standard Radio & Telefon AB
CR300 family (unclear which version, probably the CR302A which was the
earliest production).

My thoughts when studying the table was if the SRT CR300 was that good in
comparison
(a mid-range receiver in a current rating system), how well should the SRT
CR90/91 have been rated...?

Finally, it is likely that 'D' is the Plessey PVR-800 remote controlled
receiver,
a full 19" rack filled with early solid state circuitry of dubious quality.
