Dear Hank,
Nigel's comments and advice this evening are spot on. As far as I can make out, the HF-235 is basically a 225 in a fancy 19 inch rackmount plus a keypad, panel speaker and a smart white case. I have seen one at a hamfest and it looked very professional but I doubt if the specs are much different than the far cheaper 225. I have the full glossy spec sheet if you have any specific queries.
If I were living near you I'd buy your 3010A like a shot. I once had my hands on one (with a Collins filter inside) but alas it had been sold. Nice radio, if old now.
For a small sized replacement, I'd opt for the AOR 7030, though I personally was not happy with the operating system, but the RF inside is excellent. Another good and smallish radio for SSB, CW and RTTY is the old Icom R71. Mine was stolen and I still miss it, though the build quality is a long call from the Cubic/Harris/Collins/Racal league. The E (European) version I had was no good at AM because of acute distortion.
An alternative thought is one of the new Winradio modules that fit inside your PC and a "front panel simulation" appears on your screen with "virtual" knobs, meters and buttons on the screen. These have quite sophisticated DSP inside and mind-boggling logging and scanning facilities (if that's your thing). It's not "real" radio in the sense that there are no conventional knobs or dials or meters, but if space is tight at the new QTH it might do the trick and the new models have been well reviewed in the UK's Short Wave Magazine recently.
