I have wanted to do this with my WJ 8718. There is a very nice program available from Ergo Software, http://swldx.com/, that logs as well. It doesn't support WJ 8718 (yet). I spoke with the proprietor a while back and he said it may be included sometime. This program handles received audio as well, I think it used something like NetMeeting. There was a program called Virtual Receiver (?) that did include WJ 9718, had a nice control panel, but didn't handle audio. That would mean a link of some kind. I can't find the link for it. Ergo was much more attractive.
Several weeks ago I came across a very interesting box made by TOA, the NX100. http://www.toaelectronics.com/nx-100.asp Network or internet in and out, rs232 out, 8 control function switches, bidirectional audio by VOIP. Pricy , but very interesting. The specs showed high quality audio with very reasonable connection, and I think even allowing up to 3500~ audio at dial up connection speeds. I would think this could be a slick way to remote a receiver with a broadband cable modem and give the receiver its own address.
