[Premium-Rx] Off Topic:HRO500 Synthesizer

I figured if anyone has done this it would be someone here...

Has anyone replaced the PLL in the HRO500 or a similar radio with something 
almost off-the-shelfish?  Between problems finding transistors and the anemic 
harmonics generated by this early version, it's fast approaching boatanchor 
status of a very real kind.

Any ideas really appreciated.
