Fellas, an interesting burst of activity recently.  I think we shouldn't 
ignore the Icoms and the Yaesu's of the world.  I'm a SWL/DXer, not a ham, 
and amongst my circle, we have been very excited of late with the Icom Pro 
models, which functionally have performed every bit as well as the true 
premium grade rx, and at a fraction of the price.  I own many premium 
receivers, and they're great,  the latest being the Ten Tec RX 340 at over 
$4k.  Not cheap.  To be honest, it's a lovely lovely radio to look at and 
ergonomically, but I'm just not that happy with it's performance compared 
to my Collins HF-2050 of 1980s vintage.  Guy Atkins (I don't recall whether 
Guy is a member here or not), does his homework meticulously and likes to 
put his receivers through the paces.  He souped up his Racal 6790 to be a 
very hot performer, but was not impressed enough with it (His Icom R75 
usually performed better, but again a souped up version with KIWA mods) to 
keep it.  He recently sold it for a record price on eBay.  His receiver of 
choice now?  It's an Icom 756 Pro.  I was so impressed by his impressions 
and observations (as well as the ton of material on line about this 
series), that I've gone out and purchased a Pro II model.  Now there's the 
Pro III.  At less than half the price of the Ten Tec, and with the TFT LCD 
screen, I'm very much looking forward to using it (fully computerized 
controlled as well), and suspect that there may be a lightly used Ten Tec 
for sale in the near future........Walt.
