[Premium-Rx] Synchronous Detector for WJ and Harris receivers

Hi Craig,
It isn't the cheapest solution, but If you can find one at a
reasonable price (or happen to have one on hand), A Lowe HF-150 makes
an excellent "no fuss" synchronous detector for any radio with an IF
within it's tuning range. You just have to match levels so you don't
overload the HF-150. The combination gives you the superior
strong-signal handling of the premium receivers, and you have all
those HF-150 synchronous-detection modes: DSB normal, DSB enhanced
fidelity, USB, and LSB--not to mention an extra degree of IF
selectivity (plus a nice little portable HF receiver). And it can add
synchronous detection and SSB to older rigs that have far superior
front-end performance (like the R3xx we're not supposed to mention
here).
It's not quite as stable as WJ and Harris stuff, but plenty stable
enough for AM synchronous detection. I'm sure there are a few other
general-coverage rigs that might fit the bill, too, but the HF-150 is
the only one I've tried. I must say, though, that it can't hold a
candle to the superior fidelity and audio quality of the SE-3.
Regards....
....Bob
