Re: S-Meter Readings & Accuracy
I always wondered how accurate the Signal Strength Meters are
on the Receivers if in fact they do give a relative signal
strength information on the received signal level at all.
Are they at all calibrated to a certain standard and what would
that be. As well as how to interpret what the meter indicates.
Do the readings have any relation to the actual incoming signal
levels. I wonder if anyone has any opinion on what to make of
the readings. I presume antenna types used, feedlines, matching
accuracy of lines & antennas and some other factors play a great
role in signal meter indications. If these meters are calibrated,
what type of antennas are used in calibrating the meters. and what
type of antenna and setup should we use so that the readings are
actual signal level readings.
Do they give any indication on Signal / Noise ratios....
I know the signal level meter definitely does give us an idea if
the signal is strong or not. But is that it.
Would appreciate hearing your opinions on this issue.
All the best
