Hi Gene (and other list members)

The PR700B is a real novelty, and the 700A version is my favorite of
all the receivers here. It is too old and large for our work
(electronic eavesdropping detection) so I just keep it on the desk for
play.

They were made for the government, for their Technical Surveillance
Countermeasures (TSCM) efforts, by MicroTel, later an Adams-Russell
company, which became M/A-Com today. Think of it as a "grab 'n go"
embassy bug checker.

It is a real do-it-all box - lots of BNC ports - that was carried in a
non-descript case. Even had a TV demod attachment (VDM-901).

Frequency Range: .003-2000 MHz
Mod: AM/FM/CW/USB/LSB & Subcarrier
Bandwidth: 3,15,150, 2000 kHz
Digital readout
IF scope
Tuning is done by holding pushbuttons down. 4 tune up and 4 tune down.
Very slick.
Also, knob fine tuning and a scanning mode.

I am not aware of any web site info about it, but I can post a few
photos if you are unfamiliar with its looks.

The MSR-902 was a smaller briefcase sister piece which took it up to 18
GHz. Both the PR700 and the MSR902 are AC or battery operational.

I find the sound quality of the 700A is just wonderful. Aesthetically,
the 700A is much nicer than the later 700B model (brushed stainless
steel (?) faceplate as opposed to pukegreen paint. 700s are just fun to
operate. (my subjective observations)

If you do obtain a PR700 and it does not have the manual, you can get
one (rental) from...
