Hi Craig
Gary Wingerd usually has them. I picked up a few from a connector
supplier -- I'd have to do some digging to find the URL. When dealing with
those guys you need the exact model numbers for the connnector, shell/strain
relief, etc. As I recall it's 16-26 or 26-16 something or other (26 pin).
Gary, of course, knows what it is. 26-pin round connectors of this type are
not the most common configuration, but available from a number of sources.
The connector guy I bought from called it an "aircraft" connector. I don't
know if that means anything to anyone else.
There's a guy who creates the PC software for the 6790 -- he sometimes has
made up cables with the special connector on one end and a standard 9-pin
D-sub connector on the other. Costs more, but may be well worth it for you.
The proper crimping tool makes a perfectly round crimp and is rather
expensive -- something like $100 or more. Not having one, I soldered each
lead, but that's difficult. You have to avoid any bumps or spurs
Each of the pins must be crimped (or soldered) to the lead first, then
inserted into the connector body from the back with a special
inserter-extractor tool. You have to ask for the cheap/freebie version of
that gimmick. While not even all 9 of the leads are wired, there are a
number of pairs in the round connector that have to be jumpered.
The software guy used to be www.visualradios.com, but that doesn't work.
Now at http://vradio.home.att.net/
The name of the company is CGT Associates. I think his first name is Craig
or Collin -- not sure. His email address is now apparently vradio at att.net
I think he might subscribe to this list.
Hope this helps.
Barry
