Hi Gents,

This last week I sent a question to someone on E-bay advertising high end
gear. This fellow had 302 positive feedbacks. His address showed England. When he
answered my question, he told me he would be happy to end the auction early
for a certain dollar amount and ship the item to me. This did not have a good
ring to it. Also his syntax seemed odd. I told him I would pass on the
offer. The next day I received a notice from e-bay that the seller ended the auction
and that I should contact the seller to make payment. The notice looked
official, with all ebay logos. I forwarded the notice to e-bay
and they told me that they had NOT sent it. They said this guy took over a
members e-bay account and they were contacting the authorities about him. E-bay
called this a "spoof email". I love how they put such a nice spin on what most
people would call FRAUD. Bottom line,
the scammers are at it big time now, so be very careful. Calling a seller on
the phone if he is in the U.S. before you buy, might be a good idea.
