responded also with a wealth of information. I'll give your setup a try here
and report back.

Is there a reason you went with 9600 baud rather than the faster 19200?

My receiver has the following pins jumpered on the serial connector:

J-L-M-R-S assigns the receiver address 99
Z-b 9600 baud
C-G data out ground tied to data in ground

pin A is tied to the RS-232 cable shield
pin B data out
pin C-G RS-232 ground
pin F data in

The remaining pins are not connected.

I had to remove jumper LK1 and install LK2 on the serial board to leave
U3 enabled all the time. This may or may not be a problem for you, but
in my case the original configuration caused the first character sent
from the receiver to be garbled.

I use a RS-232 to USB adapter to control the receiver from my Macintosh
computer.
