Fellow Members:
I again forward an off List E-Mail I have received from Guido Kuppers (DF2KW) located between Cologne (he can see the cathedral from his window) and Bonn, Germany. Guido is not a member of the Premium-Rx List at the present time. Those who own RA 6790 and 1792 will find this interesting.
" ... I own a RA6790/GM and a RA1792 both with fairly complete manuals. I started poking around in the processor roms quite a time ago. Got hold of a 1980 copy of IC Master where I found the instruction set for the Fairchild F8, which helped me putting together a disassembler for the 3850 (the code of which I'm willing to share with anyone who wants it). I went through the disassembly and hooked my ancient HP1600A/HP1607A logic state analyzer to the RA1792. That's the story so far.
Meanwhile, I stumbled upon a free software emulator for the 3850/3853 couple, which will run the rom code and even provide a debugger. This is part of a huge arcade game and video console emulator named MESS/MAME, which emulates some 50 processors, both ancient and recent. It's an open source project targeted to Linux, DOS, and Windows.
Next project will be to set up a replacement for the whole processor board made up from a cheap GAMEBOY handheld computer (Z80 processor) which will eventually run a binary translation of the 3850 code.
Regards
Guido
