I've done just that for many years, both with a R-390A and several SP-600's. 
The map has a 455 if output that is post filter, so it improves the SE-3 also. 
It improves whatever it is used with. Presently using it with a Kiwa modified 
NRD-525 feeding the map feeding the SE-3.
