I would think a FET source follower followed by a bipolar amplifier would
handle the highly reactive source of a short antenna without hurting the
noise figure. The bipolar would be looking into the source resistor of the
FET and be happy to see a resistive source. A couple back to back diodes
would protect the FET gate.  fc
