[Premium-Rx] WJ8718 Battery

If I can sneak in between the list rules....how can you tell if your battery 
is dead in an WJ8718/8716?  At power up, my flea market version has always 
started at 00000 - 'course my 651S1 does this too, but I was wondering if by any 
chance this was symptomatic of a bad battery, or if there was a way to stay at 
the last frequency, short of leaving the radio on.
