Hi All,
I have seen a number of AGC modifications in the RA6830 production run. Also
I have seen this problem when the Audio level pots
are not set properly. 6803 software causes severe pumping of the audio and
requires lower Audio levels into the audio output amplifier.
Check the decay times for each AGC speed to verify the AGC is working then
look at the audio levels at the output amplifier.
Racal used similar circuits an all these radios. I find CW in the AGC fast
mode a bit much. Fast mode is only good during
rapid QSB or severe static conditions. I suspect the RA6793 and RA6830 are
very similar circuit design. fc

Fellow Members:

Barry Williams joins our Premium List from Houston, Texas. He received his
amateur license -KD5VC- in the early 1980s. Barry recently purchased a
Racal 6790/GM3 and found our List while making a Google search for
information.

Barry has a question about the Racal 6790 / 6793 receivers. His primary
question is in regards the difference between the IF amp on the 6790 and
6793. The 6790 seems to have "pops" on CW that make copy difficult. Yet,
he is of the opinion the 6793 does not have this characteristic. Can anyone
provide him with the needed answer/s?

You may recognize our newest members name?.... he has written several
articles about the modification of the FT-1000D as well as the R-9000.
Another side of his hobby is collecting National HRO devices. Presently he
owns about 40 of the receivers and is putting the finishing touches on a
number of articles regarding this piece of hardware.
