[Premium-Rx] Need 60Khz WWVB Antenna

Most of the WWVB antennas, like the HP 117, are active and require power up the
coax. The HP has a pair of Collins mechanical filters and a couple of rare type
NuVistors inside. There are two types available, the large loops, about 1 M in
diameter, and the ferrite rods.
If you just want to experiment, you can home brew an antenna easily enough.
Here's how:
Method 1: Take a piece of thin (1/4") plywood and put in 4 nuts & bolts at the
corners of a roughly 1 M square and make a multi-turn loop with about #16
insulated wire. I used junk hook-up wire. You can electrically shield the loop
with copper tape tat is adhesive backed. Remember to leave a gap so the shield
is not a shorted turn. When done, resonate the loop with a series cap and
connect the output to your Rx. I did mine this way, but just drove nails into
the studs on the gable end of my attic.
Method 2: Make a square loop out of 1/2" EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing). If you
can't bend the tubing, there are right angle fittings available at Home depot.
Remember the gap
Method 3: Can be used with either support described above. Use multi-conductor
cable and connect conductors to make a multi-turn loop. If the cable is
shielded, don't connect the shield ends together.
Good luck.
