Bob / John -
You hit the nail on the head. I started thinking this way when I had one
Racal 6217's running, and spent (considerable) time and parts looking to get a
second basket case going, when I decided that I could do a "poor man's" job with
a pair of R4B's well before I found parts or the Racal diversity unit.
But it's not as trivial as I thought. Although the HF oscillator and vfo are
premixed and easily slaved, the BFO is confounding me. The circuit uses a
transformer where the tapped primary is part of the oscillator circuit, and the
secondary is balanced (with a grounded CT), driving two diodes in a balanced
diode product detector - if it was single ended it would be obvious to me what
to do, but I'm at a loss for driving two product detectors from that BFO
circuit - it seems if I fiddle with the primary it will screw up the oscillator,
and if I fiddle with the secondary I'll unbalance the product detector - any
thoughts, short of a transformer with two secondaries?
Thanks, Scott
