[Premium-Rx] HP 8649B?

Can the integrity of the HP 8640B gears be checked anyway without taking the cover off and without power like at a hamfest?

  Lew Coppes of http://www.thetestequipmentstore.com in Tucson, AZ told me he had custom replacement metal gear sets made for 8640B's several years ago. I can't remember what they cost but they weren't cheap... at that time I don't think he was selling any but using them to refurb equipment he had for sale.

  I'm cautious with my 8640B too as one of the nylon / delron gears is cracked on the deviation part of the gear set.  It's held up well for the past 4 years by being careful so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
