 <<phasenoise.xls>> Hi,
Mark Donaldson and I measured phase noise
using ARRL method on his R2050 and WJ 8717. I included
the RA6830 and R3030. The Hot Rod 6830 has 2 filter modules ahead of the IF
amplifier and one in the module in the A8 slot ahead of the
demodulator. There is a pair of 8 KHz wide filters in the 40.455 MHz
first IF. Also the synthesizer is a special modified unit from Gary
with better narrow band phase noise. Caps were added and power
to the VCO rerouted. I'm sure the filters help the numbers a lot
compared to a stock 6830. This is only a sample of one so don't
take this as real. Still, this is interesting to look at. I have RF590
numbers somewhere that was cleaner than a stock 6830 if I
remember. The R3030 has a single 20 KHz filter in the first IF.
Filters and signal leakage will effect these numbers. fc
