There's a simple $25 adaptor at

http://www.scancat.com/ctlg-adp.html

that will work with any serial cable.

The M8000's command set is pretty simple (and limited), and I would guess
that the M7000's is no more complicated. Basically, there is a single ASCII
character assigned to each of he unit's front panel buttons, and you type
the key instead of pushing the button.

The M8000 is certainly easy to use with software like the old Windows 3.x
Terminal program, which allows 24 pushbuttons to be programmed to send
whatever ASCII string you wish when each is clicked.

However, I use T. Teranishi's Tera Term Pro v2.3,

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html

which has a log-to-file capability as well as a very large maximum
permissible text buffer size.

Good listening,
Al
