Rohde & Schwarz comes to my mind, then what about Hammarlund?  Swiss 
army gear like the SE-430 (not strictly a receiver, it is a transmitter, 
too).  Telefunken used to manufacture fine commercial receivers as well, 
we use them a lot on our SW listening posts.
