Hi All
I've seen archived postings from other owners of this set so am hoping
someone can give me a bit of advice.
I've just received my RX and it's overloading with AGC switched on.
There's adjustment for AGC level so I don't see this as much of a problem,
once I've checked to make sure there's not an actual fault somewhere, but
have noticed something I'm not sure about.
My RX is a faily early one from 1980 and the manual is a few years later.
The manual schematic shows two resistors in the AGC line, R57 and R58, which
are out of number sequence and obviously a later addition. These were not
originally fitted on my RX but have been added.
R58 is shown as 3k3 but the resistor fitted is 1100 ohms.
I suspect that whoever fitted it was a bit colour blind, and am tempted just
to replace it with the "proper" value, but would like to know if there might
have been a good reason for fitting the different value.
I've also noticed that the LED display starts up with some random corrupt or
missing digits, replacing the dead Ni-Cad is another job I need to do, but it
corrects itself once each digit is tuned through 9. I'm not sure if this is a
fault or just a characteristic of the "scan tuning" when there's no backup
battery fitted.
Any advice on that would also be appreciated as I don't want to waste time
trying to fix something that might not be broke to start with:-)
regards
Nigel Clarke
