Received a batch of excellent suggestions for brain food on this, thanks to
all.

Ed, when you get your receiver brick perfected there will be great interest
in it.  I don't know of a similar device anywhere on the market within reach
of average pocketbooks. For the moment, I'll likely try the chained relay
setup, with one small grounding relay mounted inside the receiver at the
input coax triggered by the spare contacts of an external T-R relay. Some
risk appears to be involved in the relay timing, so maybe the Shottky diode
thing would provide some added safety.

It just amazes me that T-R switching for power-sensitive receiver front ends
has not been reduced to a little black box solution already,  by somebody
somewhere, but I guess not! Sounds like a niche for a cottage industry.
