Hello hams,

One of my Elmers is involved with the hurricane nets as Hurricane
Melissa rips through the Caribbean, destroying communications
infrastructure on islands in her path. I asked him, "where should hams
go, for example prior to doing a POTA activation or participating in a
contest, to read what frequencies they should avoid, to leave them clear
for hurricane nets and emergency operations?"

He answered: "arrl.org." Sure enough, I checked out the front page of
their website and they have an article called "Hurricane Melissa
Update," which is being kept updated (most recently just a few hours
ago). The article advises that the frequencies to steer clear of are
14.325 MHz and 7.268 MHz.

So, there we go: the ARRL is doing a good job living up to its middle
name(s) and facilitating "Radio Relay" operations during these
emergencies. Let's wish the best for those in the path of Hurricane
Melissa, and help out when we can.

Stay safe, all!
