Calling all amateur radio operators!
For those who don’t know me, I am Jon Cashatt, KJØCFW and I am the current director of the Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management’s (PPROEM), Special Communications Unit (SCU). The SCU is a group of amateur radio operators that volunteer to directly support and assist the Regional Office of Emergency Management and our SCU callsigns are KØESD and KØEPC.
The Colorado ARES Simulated Emergency Test (SET) is this Saturday November 1st and the scenario this year is: KnowIng Served Scenario (an exercise in knowing your served agencies & communications objectives).
The PPROEM SCU would like to invite all interested local amateur radio operators to participate with us this Saturday on the air using multiple bands and modes.
The SCU is planning to be operating on and monitoring multiple repeaters, simplex frequencies, bands and modes from 9:30am until approximately noon depending on when the State EOC plans to be active on the air.
We will begin at 9:30am local time with a check-in and informational Net using the KØESD Cheyenne Mountain repeater, 146.760 MHz, negative offset and 107.2 Hz tone. We will also be monitoring our 146.970/448.450 KØESD linked repeaters on top of Pikes Peak as well as multiple local club repeaters for anyone wanting information on how to participate but unable to access our 146.760 repeater.
We will be looking for contacts via analog and DMR voice, Winlink RMS Gateways, Winlink Vara FM peer 2 peer simplex, VarAC HF and 70cm FM plus our two packet stations (KØESD on 144.390 and KØEPC on 145.050).
I am attaching a PDF document listing all the repeaters, frequencies and modes that the SCU is planning to be operating on and monitoring during the SET but if the attachment isn’t included due to club reflector limitations please email me at:
pproemscu at gmail.com
I will be happy to send you the PDF directly and answer any questions you may have.
I intend to check-in to as many club nets as possible this week to get the word out also. You can find out more about the SCU at: https://pproem.com/el-paso-county-amateur-radio-emergency-communications
The SCU looks forward to talking with you on the air this Saturday morning, November 1st.
Thank you and 73,
Jon Cashatt, KJØCFW
