Good Evening All,
There have been some questions about cancelling any planned club events
(specifically the membership meetings) due to inclement weather.
The board briefly discussed this topic at last night's meeting and came to
the conclusion that ultimately it will be up to the President to make the
final determination, so I'll provide the following:
Generally speaking, I'd estimate that most of our event attendance comes
from Fountain to Monument and Divide to the Falcon/Calhan/Ellicott areas
(and yes, in some cases from even farther). As most of you well know, the
weather can change rapidly and vary dramatically from place to place in this
area (sometimes in as little as a few minutes & few miles), because of this,
any decision made will not be perfect for everyone.
REGARDLESS OF ANY DECICISION MADE - IF YOU DO NOT FEEL THAT IT'S SAFE TO
ATTEND AN EVENT, PLEASE DON'T! NONE OF OUR EVENTS ARE WORTH ANYONE PUTTING
THEMSELVES AT RISK.
As far as cancelling an event - I will confer with the other officers and
board members and make a final decision. Our primary notification will be
to send an email out on this reflector (so if you know someone who may not
be signed up, please encourage them to). We will make our best effort to
get something put on the WWW.PPRAA.ORG <http://WWW.PPRAA.ORG> website (our
webmaster does have other commitments and may not be able to immediately get
it posted). We will also be talking about it on the local repeaters (if you
haven't heard or seen anything make a call out and ask if anyone listening
has any information - after all, we are a radio club!).
Specifically related to the General Membership Meetings - IF a decision is
made to cancel the in person meeting - we already have the zoom link in
place, thus the meeting will be held on zoom.
Again, I cannot stress enough - the weather in your area may not be the same
as it is at the location of the event so if there is no cancellation and you
don't feel safe, please do not attend.
As of right now, I AM NOT planning on cancelling tomorrows general
membership meeting. Everything that I've seen thus far indicates that the
brunt of the impact (for the Colorado Springs area) won't occur until around
midnight Wednesday. Again, I/we will continue to monitor the situation, and
if it changes I will make the decision by to 4PM tomorrow, so keep an eye on
your email and the club website, and an ear on your radio.
Thank you all for being members and for your understanding. If you have any
questions, please send me an email, but know that I need some sleep and also
have a 7-5, so I may not respond right away.
73,
