Hi Dennis,
While I am not an expert, I have worked through those same issues in the
past six months and will certainly be happy to share with you from my
experience. I am retired and live in Peyton. I will be happy to meet and
bring my computer and show you what I do.... Again, there are those who
know much more than I do, but what I do works for me.
For the short course, I have Grid Tracker automatically load the calls to
QRZ. For my POTA activations or other QSOs, I like to log with HAMRS and
then I upload that to QRZ. From QRZ, I will upload to LoTW and then
download from LOTW to QRZ. QRZ is really my foundational place for logging
and I go to and from there.
I also have n3fjp, which was highly recommended to me as a good logging
software program and while I believe it is very good, I find HAMRS to be
easier and faster. I also have Ham Radio Deluxe and some really like
logging with it, but again, I haven't mastered it so I haven't used it. I
also joined eQSL and while I don't use it a lot, it is an easy way to send
and receive electronic eQSL cards.
If you want more information on me and the equipment I have, you can visit
my QRZ page.
Let me know if I can help.
Dave

Subject: [PPRAANet] Help with logging software
Since getting my general lic about 4 months ago I finally purchased an Icom
7300 that had an antenna tuner with it. I have connected an end feed 60 foot
antenna, downloaded the FT8 software, gridtracker, signed up for qrz.com,
and even got registered on LOTW with its postcard, password etc. I am
amazed I have actually made some ft8 contacts and heard folks talk but
currently I am maintaining a vow of silence. I understand there are many
approaches to logging software but assume for now I will use LOTW and QRZ.
At some point in the future, I may change and can learn to upload my files
to a new logger? Gridtracker appears to be downloading some contacts to
lotw and qrz ie I see contacts in both programs only a couple confirmations.
That is the backstory here is what I need:
I would like to meet with someone (I will buy a coffee, donuts, drinks?) or
meet at your house or mine with my laptop to talk me through:
uploading files between lotw and qrz (elsewhere in the future) how to
confirm contact requests on lotw and qrz how to manually input contacts if I
want and when would I do so where are the logs if any on wsjtx or do they
live in gridtracker etc Bottom line is I really don't understand the process
of logs and would like to see it on my computer and in the programs I have.
I am usually available in the afternoons or evenings. After playing with
LOTW , gridtracker and QRZ I really would like to see it in person and not
try to figure it out by email. It will be much easier and faster for all
concerned. If anyone is interested in this task...PS I live near flintridge
and academy ie near NE colo spg. Thanks, dennis
