[PPRAANet] Club Discord?

It is really more like a learning management system than a social media
website. You create rooms (channels) and can restrict access and/or limit
whether a person an just view or contribute. It is definitely more for an
internal audience than our website, although it can have an introduction
access. I have typically setup the Discord servers so that a person has to
request admission and be approved before they have access to the main rooms.
Also, it is very easy for someone with an administrator role to remove
someone and to remove anything that someone may post.

Not opposed to it. The club does have other social media presences including
a Facebook group with 231 members, a Facebook page, a Twitter account, and
an Instagram account. I believe we used to have a forum linked to the
website, but as I recall it wasn't really being used so got turned off.

My limited experience with Discord is it is a more of an "internal audience"
platform and less of a public audience thing, so it is more like the
Facebook group. We would want to make sure that basic steps are followed to
keep spammers and such out. If you decide to establish a Discord for the
club, let me know so we can go over some of the settings.

Other venues to also consider are LinkedIn and Mastodon.

Subject: [PPRAANet] Club Discord?

Hello everyone,

I was curious to see if anyone would be interested or think the general
membership would be interested if I set up a Discord for the club. If you
haven't heard of or seen Discord before it's basically the next generation
of internet forum where members can discuss topics, share builds, pictures,
stories, etc. There are also voice channels and screen sharing capabilities,
where people can hangout and have online discussions. It could be a great
tool for helping new people get started as well.

The folks at Parks On The Air just set up a discord for POTA and so far it's
been pretty cool.

Here's a link if you'd like to check it out:
https://discord.com/

If there's enough interest I'll set one up for the club.

Thanks,
Kyle
