PPRAA Members,I’m really getting some great feedback from the distro list on my POTA question. Thank you everyone for your responses.  Im going to try some different antenna configurations for my hunts based on this feedback to reach into neighboring states on 20M.  This has been very helpful.  Chris________________________Chris Nicoll CISSPPhone: (719) 225-6600chris at chrisnicoll.usAmateur Radio Call Sign: WØCNX| LinkedIn ---- On Fri, 02 Dec 2022 07:20:40 -0700 Laurie K0LTH<laurie at ham2ham.net> wrote ----I'm just catching up on these emails, sorry for the delay.I wanted to add that I've been able to get NM, AZ, UT all on 20M quite well from my home QTH using our horizontal sky loop. It's in the trees about 40' off the ground, 300 ft circumference, fed with ladder line into our balanced line tuner. We use an Icom-7100, 100w. I'd have to say I've not particularly been trying to get these neighboring states, and not necessarily hunting POTAs.  I probably could add WY and KS due to the omnidirectional nature of the loop. And, as in a previous post, I agree that there probably aren't that many people doing POTA in those states. For POTA and portable activations, my husband (Tim KØCKR) has designed what he calls a "Pyramid Doublet System". It's designed to put up easily (the two of us get it up when camping in about 45 minutes), and to use a smaller footprint than our home loop while getting similar results. We have it on a 33' telescoping mast when out camping. We are able to tune this doublet from 6M to 80M. Our thought is that it could also be used in a city backyard, with its smaller footprint, although there could be city RF and local structures causing issues. He has put together a document about this antenna system. You can see photos of it and a link to the document on my QRZ page (KØLTH). Last summer I was able to get my first South Africa contact using this portable setup at 10,000 ft.Both of these antennas work very well at reaching local (Colorado) folks and nets during the NVIS times of the day.73 de Laurie KØLTH-- Laurie KØLTHHam2Ham <https://ham2ham.net/>HIGH COUNTRY LIVING <https://www.highcountryliving.net/>______________________________________________________________PPRAANet mailing listHome: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/ppraanetHelp: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htmPost: mailto:PPRAANet at mailman.qth.netThis list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
