Since QTH means “What is your location?” or “My locations is …”, I would just send “QTH DM78OV” or “QTH CO SPRNGS CO”.

Subject: [PPRAANet] Morse code question

How do you deal with the length of the words “Colorado Springs”? Sending it three or four times when you are working sombody who is hearing you with a 439 report is painful!

The instruction books say that you should send something like “QTH is Colorado Springs CO” but that is irritatingly long. For one thing, there is only one Colorado Springs, so I should not have to include the CO part, anybody can figure out that Colorado Springs is in Colorado. Also, for most purposes it is only the state that really matters anyway, so I could just say “QTH is Colorado” and that would usually be enough.

(Also I just noticed that “CO” is the longest state abbreviation of the 50, when when adding up dots and dashes.)

Can I get away with “Colo Springs” or “Co Springs” or “Co Spngs”?

Maybe I should just move up to Erie, CO! :-)

Thanks for suggestions.

Doug, W0UHU.
